You are absolutely correct!! We must never forget those innocent people who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. I believe somehow, we must all come together as a nation once again, instead of being divisive as we are today.

In the summer of 2001, my daughter decided, without consulting the family, to join the Navy. When she told me I was upset. But as I thought more about it, in the days that followed I accepted and supported her decision, not because that’s what dads do but because she had to learn the consequences of her decisions. She signed the papers on August 22, 2001 and seemed firm in her choice, which was a change for the better because she had always been fickle and to a lesser extent irresponsible.

Then…20 days later…

I came home from work having seen the towers fall and the pentagon hit as well as seeing the remains of flight 93. I opened the door to find my daughter, puffy eyed and scared as could be, sitting on the edge of the sofa watching for the 60th time the towers fall to earth. She ran into my arms saying, “Daddy daddy who did this?!”

I said, “I don’t know honey, but your going to find him and kill him for all of us.”

She didn’t like that answer. But she fought hard and was named the USS Kittyhawk’s Jr. Sailor of the year in 2002.

She’s gone now, but the memory is bold and the feelings real.

I will never… EVER…Forget..
